5 Flora/May 20

Lunadi/Monday. (Moonday).

Day of Our Lady Gracia (Gray-sha), Brightness of Reflection, Purity and Grace. (Heb. 10: 29).

Day of The Holy Daughter, Jahah Sophia.

Gift of Our Holy Mother Spirit: Understanding.

Fruit of Our Holy Mother Spirit for the Month of Flora: Joy.

Symbol of the Day: The Moon, which represents the Holy Daughter, She Who is the Supernal Moon. The Holy Daughter is the Gentle Reflection of the Bright Light of the Supernal Sun, She Who is Our Heavenly Mother.

Archeia of the Day: Archeia Bath Kol (who was mistakenly listed as the angel of Sunnadi/Sunday. Our apologies.) We assign her the title of Archeia, or female archangel, because she is above the angels.

She is known as the highest angel beneath the Holy Spirit, Our Holy Mother Spirit.  Her name means Heavenly Voice or the Daughter of Voice. She is the Angel of Prophecy. In the Old Testament, She is symbolized by a dove. She is said to have appeared to both Simeon Ben Yohai, the reputed author of the Zohar and Nicolas Flamel of the Philosopher Stone fame. In the Talmud, She is said to be the Heavenly Voice of God. Some equate her with the Holy Spirit while others say she is lower than the Holy Spirit, an angel.

Part II:

Jesus called the Holy Spirit, His Mother.

The Writings of Margaret Barker.

Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as His Mother.

We  need to keep in mind when it comes to angels and Spirits, there is no reason to believe they are genderless. Until recent times, gender was defined as a Principle or State of Being. It is not to be confused with biological sex. Therefore, all Intelligent Beings/Persons are capable of having the Principle and State of Being as either Female or Male.

This is why, though many theologians teach that the Father is genderless, there is no reason to teach such a thing, in my opinion. And certainly, Jesus revealed Him to be the Father, just as He revealed the Holy Spirit to be His Mother, as we shall shortly see through the Lost Gospel of the Hebrews which is not to be confused with the Epistle to the Hebrews.

There have been many important documents lost to Christianity. We know about them because they are mentioned by the Church Fathers. One such lost document is the lost Gospel of the Hebrews. This Gospel is said to be of the Jewish Christians, who considered themselves to be under James, the brother of Jesus.

Though there are some fragments of the document have been preserved in certain writings of the Church Fathers and the earliest date given the Gospel is the middle of the first century, the latest possible date, the middle of the second century.

Texts considered to be contemporaneous with the Gospel of the Hebrews includes the Gospel of Luke; the Acts of the Apostles; 1 Clement; the Christian Sibyllines,  the Book of Revelation, the Gospel of John and 1 John. It has been stated that the loss of the Gospel of the Hebrews was a great loss as it probably would shed light on the leadership of James. This article lists those Church Fathers who quoted from the Gospel of the Hebrews: (see 1).

It has been stated that this Gospel, if ever found, might contain the true Christian Tradition of Jesus, Himself, and that of His brother, James, which was Jewish Christianity and who, rather than Peter, may possibly have been the first leader of the Church. James was the head (or bishop) of the Church in Jerusalem until his martyrdom in A. D. 62 and, of course, the subsequent Fall of Jerusalem in A. D. 70.

The fragments contain traditions of Jesus’ pre-existenceincarnationbaptism, and probable temptation, along with some of his sayings.[3] Distinctive features include a Christology characterized by the belief that the Holy Spirit is Jesus’ Divine Mother and a first resurrection appearance to James, the brother of Jesus, showing a high regard for James as the leader of the Jewish Christian church in Jerusalem.[4] It was probably composed in Greek in the first decades of the 2nd century, and is believed to have been used by Greek-speaking Jewish Christians in Egypt during that century.

Modern scholars classify the Gospel of the Hebrews as one of the three Jewish–Christian gospels, along with the Gospel of the Nazarenes and the Gospel of the Ebionites. Others suggest that these three titles may have been referring to one and the same book.(3)

Fragment 1 identifies Jesus as the son of the Holy Spirit; this idea is found also in the Egyptian Coptic Epistle of James, another indication of the Egyptian origin of the gospel.[n 5]

2. And it came to pass when the Lord was come up out of the water, the whole fount of the Holy Spirit descended upon him and rested on him and said to him: My Son, in all the prophets was I waiting for thee that thou shouldest come and I might rest in thee. For thou art my rest; thou art my first-begotten Son that reignest for ever. (JeromeCommentary on Isaiah 4) (3)

Fragment 2 uses the language of Jewish Wisdom literature,[n 6] but applies it to the Holy Spirit: the Spirit has waited in vain through all the prophets for the Son. The “rest” that the Holy Spirit finds in the Son belongs to the Christian gnostic idea of the pre-existent Redeemer who finally becomes incarnate in Jesus.[20]

3. Even so did my Mother, the Holy Spirit, take me by one of my hairs and carry me away on to the great mountain Tabor.(OrigenCommentary on John 2.12.87) (3)

The theology of the gospel is strongly influenced by Jewish–Christian wisdom teaching. The Holy Spirit is represented as a manifestation of Divine Wisdom who is called “Mother”.[n 12] (3)

From the Gospel of Philip (Meyer):

Some said Mary became pregnant by the Holy Spirit. They are wrong and do not know what they are saying. When did a woman ever get pregnant by a woman?

Mary is the virgin whom none of the powers defiled.

The Consecration Prayer of the early Syrian Church invoked the Holy Spirit as Mother. It is important to note that they did not believe the Holy Spirit was Female due to Gnosticism. (Please see B).

The Sophia is also invoked in the first prayer of consecration.[14] She is there called the “merciful mother,” the “consort of the masculine one,” “revealant of the perfect mysteries,” “Mother of the Seven Houses,” “who finds rest in the eighth house,” i.e. in the Ogdoad. In the second Prayer of Consecration[15] she is also designated, the “perfect Mercy” and “Consort of the Masculine One,” but is also called “Holy Spirit” (Syriac Rūha d’ Qudshā) “Revealant of the Mysteries of the whole Magnitude,” “hidden Mother,” “She who knows the Mysteries of the Elect,” and “she who partakes in the conflicts of the noble Agonistes” (i.e. of Christ, cf. exc. ex Theod. 58 ho megas agōnistēs Iēsous).

There is further a direct reminiscence of the doctrine of Bardesanes when she is invoked as the Holy Dove which has given birth to the two twins, i.e. the two daughters of the Rūha d’ Qudshā (ap. Ephraim, Hymn 55). (4)

Here is the Eucharistic Prayer of the ancient Syrian Church:

[An invocation to the Spirit in the context of the Eucharist.] . . . Come, hidden Mother . . . come, and make us share in this Eucharist which we perform in Your name, and [make us share] in the love to which we are joined by invoking You. [The Syriac again removes the reference to the Spirit as ‘Mother’.]

§133 [In the course of a trinitarian invocation in the context of the Eucharist.] We name over you [the newly baptised] the name of the Mother. [Syriac: the name of the Spirit.]

I love the idea that the ancient Syrians believed that the Holy Spirit (Dove) hovering over the Waters of Creation, was the prototype of the actions of Our Holy Mother Spirit during both the Annunciation and the Eucharist. The Sacrament of the Eucharist takes place through the actions and the Power of the Holy Spirit, Our Holy Mother Spirit…as was recognized by the ancient Syrians before Her Gender was changed to Male in the 500’s.

Well, this article could go on forever!

The Holy Daughter is Enthroned as the Queen of Heaven.

28 Maia/May 15 was the Feast of the Coronation of the Holy Daughter, Janah Sophia. For those who use silk flowers for the crown, the crown may remain on the Holy Daughter through the end of Flora, which marks the end of the Sacred Season of Spring, the Season of the Holy Daughter.

The Sacred reading for today comes from the Madrian (2): The Mythos of the Divine Maid (Holy Daughter) Chapter VII: 9-13. These verses may be applied to Janah Sophia, the Holy Daughter:

9: And when the time was at hand, two Geniae (Janati/Hallows) descended, one on either side of Her, and She went with them into Heaven.

10: And the children of Heaven greeted Her, crying: Hail, Princess of the World; Hail, Queen of Heaven. And they placed a Crown of Stars about Her head. 11: And the blue night was Her cloak and the stars of the sky, the Crown about Her head and the Moon lay at Her feet. And they cried again, Hail, Queen of Heaven. (This verse was inspired by Rev. 12: 1: Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. Rev. 12: 1, NKJV.

(Please note, the Reginite edition of the Rite of Sacrifice (RoS) should be complete by the end of the week.)

Hymn: Hail, Holy Queen Enthroned Above:

The following Marian hymn may be applied to Janah Sophia, the Holy Daughter: Hail, Holy Queen Enthroned Above aka the Salve, Regina:

In Traditional Gregorian Latin Chant:

The Sacred Month of Flora which means Flower: May 16- June 12.

We have now entered the Sacred Month of Flora, which means Flower, the last month of the Holy Season of Spring. It also marks  the ending of the Spring Season of the Holy Daughter.

During this Sacred Season of Spring, we have witnessed the Cosmic Drama of Our Kyria, {Kyria means Lady in the Lord sense and is reserved for the Holy Daughter), as, during the month of Columbina, (B) She has risen to become the World Soul (3). And, in accordance with Her Mythos, in during Maia, (B), She has been Crowned as Queen of Heaven. Today, in Flora, (B), we celebrate the Enthronement of the Queen of Heaven  at the Left-Hand of Our Heavenly Mother (left is Feminine), just as the Divine Son, Our High King, is enthroned at the right Hand of the True Father.

(Reproductions are available).

On 15 Flora/May 30, we recognize Her as Our High Priestess before Our Heavenly Mother as Our Lord is Our High Priest before the True Father. Lord and Lady, Son and Daughter, Twin Souls and Divine Consorts, the Divine Son, Who emanates from the True Father and the Holy Daughter, Who emanates from Our Heavenly Mother, work hand in hand as Co-Saviours. She restores us to Our Heavenly Mother while He raises us to Our True Father.

Feast Days in Flora:

First Sunday after the Crowning: Our Holy Kyria (the Holy Daughter) is Enthroned as the Queen of Heaven.

10 Flora/May 25: The Feast of Flowers.

15 Flora/May 30: Feast of Our High Priestess. During the Holy Month of Columbina, Our Holy Kyria, the Holy Daughter, Janah Sophia, becomes the World Soul or the Holy Soul of the World. During the Sacred Month of Maia, She is Crowned the Queen of Heaven just as the Son is Our King. In the Month of flowers, Flora, She becomes Our High Priestess before the Mother, just as the Divine Son is Our High Priest before the Father.

Correspondences for the Holy Month of Flora.

Angels of the Month: Archeia Haniel: The Archeia (feminine of Archangel or feminine angel), Haniel, Hanael or Anael. While Hanael, which probably comes from Hannah and means, Grace of God, has been listed, at times, as masculine, she is a female Archangel. She is known as the angel of Joy. Harmony and Balance. She rules over love and beauty. If you look her up, there is a lot of devotional info on her. She known as the Rose Angel and rules over the planet, Venus and she rules the North. Her day is Friday and her month, June. Her metal is copper or brass. Her seal is a crescent moon with a dove beneath it. These are all feminine symbols. She is often included in the list of the Seven Archangels. She is one of the angels of Creation and the Zohar lists her as a guardian of the Tree of Life. She is reputed to be the daughter of St. Michael.

Full Moon: The Flower Moon. (The Rite of Sacrifice or RoS is usually celebrated on the Full Moons in honor of Our Heavenly Mother, as was practiced during the First Temple Era in honor of the Lady Wisdom (3) and by the later Collyridians in honor of the Blessed Mary.)

28 Maia/May 15

Day of Our Lady Sophiana, which means Wisdom’s Grace. She is the Messenger of Wisdom, Revelation and Knowledge. (Eph. 1:17).

Today’s Gift of the Holy Mother Spirit: Wisdom.

Please see previous post on The Queen of Heaven.

Today we celebrate the Crowning of the Holy Daughter, Janah Sophia. {(Janah, pronounced Yah-nah) is a sacred name and helps to distinguish Her from the so-called Fallen Sophia of the Gnostic Christians, which was a later demotion of the original Gnostic texts. (1). We were pleased to discover that some modern Essenes use the same title for Her..Jahnah.} As Her Twin Consort, the Divine Son, is Our King, so is She, Our Heavenly Queen.

Litanies, Akathists and hymns may be offered. (See below article). For those who wish to offer the Rite of Sacrifice, I am still updating it with newly discovered original material, but the Janite version may be found here: It would need to be adapted for Reginites.

Crowns may be made out of roses or other flowers. Female devotees may wear a crown of flowers, as well. The Sophian crown may be placed upon the statue, hung on an icon or placed on the home altar/shrine before Her image. Silk flowers may be used. If you have a garden statue, that may be crowned, as well.  Here are some instructions:

During the crowning, we sing the traditional song, Queen of the May or Bring Flowers of the Rarest. Simply substitute Sophia’s Name for Mary’s. As Sophia, Herself, explained in an apparition to a seer, those who have prayed to Mary have been praying to Her.

Many, including Russian Sophianologists, believe that Mary is an incarnation of Higher/Mother Sophia. Reginites do not teach that Mary is an incarnation of Sophia, rather, we believe that Higher/Mother Sophia, in Her Holy Spirit Form, entered into Mary and so Mary became Her avatar as did Eve and Norea.  In this way, it is perfectly permissible to use Marian hymns and devotions and apply them to Sophia.

Akathist: This is the Akathist that I wrote for the Janites. It needs to be adapted for Reginites, which will be done in the near future:

The Purity of the Dove

THE PURITY OF THE DOVE by Rev. Pamela Lanides, copyright protected.

1) Give Your Heart unto me and I shall fashion of it the purity of a dove.

2) For mine is the Way of compassion that is born out of Love.

3) I am the breath which sustains the All; I am the breeze that you sense in the night.

4) I am the rabbit chasing across the glen; I am the deer who is stilled by the light.

5) I am the flower amongst the vast meadow; I am the stars which gleam across the sky.

6) I am the palm swaying in the breeze; I am the moon which shines down from on high.

7) I am the Presence Who calls in the Forest; I am the froth upon the mighty sea.

8) I am in you and in all those around you; I am in the world and in every face you see.

9) The cosmic dance is to my own tune in perfect rhythm and harmony,

10) For I am She Who composed the song; And I am She Who holds the Key.

11) The Key to the Dance is the purity of the Dove, in mind and heart and soul.

12) Open the Dance and enter therein and join the spiral of the knoll.

13) For the spiral goes round and round and round, upwards ever higher.

14) Till finally the highest note of all brings us to our Desire.

15) And so in all your thoughts and words remember this one thing,

16) It is only in the purity of the Dove that the truth shall ever ring.

17) And when you look upon the flower, the stars and the mighty sea,

18) I am the Dove within and you are gazing upon Me.

19) I am the Holy Daughter and I am the Dove of Purity.

Let us Bless the Queen of Heaven,

Blessed is She.

  1. She, the Daughter of Holy Wisdom, did not create a monstrous demiurge. Nor is She the cause of the ‘fall of Creation’. She is not ‘trapped’ within the Earth nor is She in need of Her Divine Consort to save Her. These ideas all came from Gnostic Christian Patriarchy who literally took pre-Christian Gnostic texts and re-wrote them and in the process, not only demoted Her, but often-times changing Her into Male.In her book, The Wisdom Goddess, Rose Horman Arthur places the Christian Gnostic Gospels side by side with the pre-Christian Gospels and demonstrates exactly how Holy Sophia was demoted.
  2. The Wisdom Goddess, Feminine Motifs in Eight Nag Hammadi Documents, is out of print, but may be found in certain university libraries and there are some rare editions, albeit expensive, through Amazon.

The Queen of Heaven

27 Maia/May 14

Day of Our Lady Valentina (aka Vikhe), Flame of Power, Love and Sound Mind. (11 Timothy 1:7). Today’s Gift of the Holy Mother Spirit: Fortitude.

(Queen Sophia).

The history of the Queen of Heaven goes back to the ancient times of the Middle East. Goddesses who have been known as the Queen of Heaven include: Inanna, Astarte, Isis, Anat, Asherah (Jer. 44), Hera, Juno, Diana and, of course, Mary, the mother of Jesus, who, in her Ascended Form, is a conflation of Diana, Isis and Sophia. Although the Queenship of Mary is not biblically based, but rather comes from Oral Tradition.

Of especial note is the Queen of Heaven in Jeremiah and the story of how King Josiah purged Her worship because his priest found an old book of the law during renovations of the Temple. He reigned from 641-609 B.C.E. (He became King at the age of 8). The siege of Jerusalem took place in 587.

The devotees of the Queen of Heaven would later blame the destruction of the Temple on the purge of devotion to the Queen of Heaven:

Image result for the book of enoch

Wisdom went forth to make her dwelling among the children of men, and found no dwelling place
Wisdom returned to her place, and took her seat among the angels 1 Enoch 42 .

(What is little known is that the Book of Enoch is considered canonical in the ancient Ethiopian Catholic and Orthodox Churches and was considered as scripture in the Epistle of Barnabas. See Church Fathers on the Book of Enoch. (1).  If you’ve never read it the book of Enoch, it’s actually pretty fascinating.)

And Her devotees cried out for Her: 16 As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not listen to you! 17 But we will certainly do whatever has gone out of our own mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our princes, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of [f]food, were well-off, and saw no trouble. 18 But since we stopped burning incense to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked everything and have been consumed by the sword and by famine.” Jer. 44:16-18.

Wisdom, Herself, cried back: The first chapter of the Book of Proverbs also describes the rejected Wisdom, and could well have been set in the period between the rejection of Wisdom by Josiah and the destruction of the city by the Babylonians. ‘How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing, and fools hate knowledge? Give heed to my reproof and I will pour out my spirit on you… because I called and you refused to listen… and you have ignored all my counsel… I will laugh at your calamity, I will mock when panic strikes you… when distress and anguish come upon you. Then they will call upon me but I will not answer, they will seek me diligently but they will not find me.’ (Prov.1.22-28) This is a Goddess speaking to the people who have rejected her. (2) Fantastic article, scroll down to Where Shall Wisdom be Found?

Be sure to check out the section on Isaiah:  The Isaiah scroll here differs from the Masoretic Hebrew by one letter, and reads: ‘Ask a sign from the Mother of the LORD your God, and…. Wow!

King Josiah hearing the book of law.

This next author also makes the case that the Queen of Heaven in Jeremiah was Sophia: Rather, I believe the earlier version of Sophia was the Queen of Heaven, who  was purged from Orthodox Judaism some 700 years earlier with King Josiah’s Deuteronomic Reform.  The catalyst for Josiah’s reform was when the priest Hilkiah found a “Book of the Law” in the temple during the early stages of Josiah’s temple renovation – different versions of this story are found in 2 Kings 22-23 and 2 Chronicles 34-35. For the complete article:

She was also the spiritual Bride of  King Solomon:

Sophia is found throughout the wisdom books of the Bible. There are many references to her in the book of Proverbs, and in the apocryphal books of
Sirach and the Wisdom of Solomon (accepted by Catholics and Orthodox, found in the Greek Septuagint of the early Church). She is Wisdom Incarnate, the Goddess of all those who are wise.

Is it any wonder that Sophia is constantly associated with wise King Solomon? 1 Kings 4:29-31 tells us that God gave wisdom to Solomon, and that he became wiser than all the kings of the East and all the wise people of Egypt. Wisdom 8:2, 16, 18 tells us Solomon was considered to be married to Sophia. One of the many layers of symbolism attributed to the Song of Songs (also known as Song of Solomon or Canticle of Canticles) is that it speaks of Solomon’s marriage to Holy Sophia. Wisdom 9:8-11 even tells us that Sophia instructed Solomon in building the Temple!

The Jews revered Sophia. King Solomon even put her right in the Temple, in the form of the Goddess Asherah. However, after the brutal “reforms” of King Josiah described in 1st and 2nd Kings in your Bible, the veneration of Sophia went underground. Josiah slaughtered all her priests and priestesses and destroyed all her shrines and places of worship. But Sophia adherents remained active in the “underground stream” for centuries even while patriarchal Christianity held total sway in the Western World. Thanks to her continuing presence in the world and her presence in the Bible, veneration of Sophia surfaced in the Eastern Christian tradition with the construction of the Hagia Sophia cathedral in Constantinople (now a Muslim museum in Instanbul). The Russian Catholic liturgical service to Sophia combined with the assumption of Mary on May 15. The Russian Orthodox Church has also begun a school of “Sophiology” to explore the thealogy (spelled with an “a”) of Sophia without contradicting the Russian Orthodox theology.

The Gnostics considered Sophia to be the Queen of Heaven upon Her entering the Bridal Chamber:

From the Acts of Thomas, the earliest Greek edition, extract from the Ode of Sophia:

The Maiden is Light’s Daughter;

On Her the King’s Radiance resteth.

Stately, Her Look and delightsome.

With radiant beauty forth-shining.

Like unto spring-flowers are Her Garments.

From them streameth scent of sweet odour.

On the Crown of Her Head, the King throneth.

And another translation:

On the Crown of her Head the King Throneth.
Her Bridechamber shineth with Light pouring forth
scent of balsam and sweet herbs.
With Kingly Clothes shall they be clad, and put on Robes of Light.

– Wedding Song of Wisdom

The Divine Sophia is the Queen of Heaven and tomorrow, we crown Her with roses, sing Her praises, shower Her with incense, gift Her with flowers and offer Her sweet bread/cakes for: 17 we will certainly do whatever has gone out of our own mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done. (Jer. 44: 17, NKJV).

Let us bless the Queen of Heaven,

Blessed is She.

Mother Pamela Lanides.

The Radiance of the Divine Feminine within Christianity, the Birth of Sophian Christianity.

Mother of the World, Nicolas Roerich

Since the 1960’s, many have searched outside of Christianity to find the Divine Feminine.  But what was hidden and has now come to light is that Christianity has a radiant Divine Feminine side, as well.

When we we consider the wide-ranging diversity of beliefs and practice in the early Church, we find that some non-Orthodox Christian sects were actually quite wide-spread and very popular such as Arianism and Valentinian Gnosticism. In fact, the Gnostic bishop, Valentinus, almost became pope! If that had happened, it’s very possible that the Christianity we inherited would be Gnostic rather than Pauline.

Imagine that! We might have had a Christianity that was complete with female priests (priestesses), the Divine Feminine, a female church leader/apostle (Mary Magdalene), a Female Holy Spirit, female angels (aeons) and those avatars of Sophia like Eve and Norea. We have the Blessed Mary and Mary Magdalene. [For those interested in Mary Magdalene, the books of Margaret Starbird are highly recommended as is the Mary Magdalene Mystery School . Please see (1) and (2)].

In addition to the above, the Divine Feminine within Christianity also encompasses the biblical fore-mothers; the Seven Virgins/Spirits of Sophia/Holy Spirit; the female Aeons (Gnostic female angels); the female Archangels and female angels.

Oftentimes, the Divine Masculine has been depicted as being Just, Judge, aloof, stern and punishing, which is unfortunate, because that is simply not the case. He is loving and merciful.  But the Divine Feminine has always been associated with unconditional Love, forgiveness, mercy, compassion, understanding. She is always with us and is ever ready to assist us, Her children. She will do whatever she can to save Her child.

These were the qualities given to the Ascended Form of Mary and they may be more readily applied to the Seven-Fold Holy Mother Spirit, Sophia, because, after all, She is God. She is a Person of the Godhead and  She shares in the Essence of the God-Nature.

We truly have a radiantly beautiful Divine Feminine side of Christianity in union with the Divine Masculine. We are very blessed.

May Our Lady bless you,

Blessed is She.

Mother Pamela Lanides.

The books of Margaret Starbird, of DaVinci Code fame, are highly recommended. Especially, the Goddess in the Gospels and the Woman with the Alabaster Jar.

The Shared Mythos of the Shekinah and Sophia an Thoughts on Thunder, Perfect Mind.

As written for

I love the above image because in my own Tradition, the Holy Mother is known, metaphorically, as the Supernal Sun. The Holy Daughter is the Supernal Moon Who reflects to us, the Bright Light of the Mother. And of course, Sophia is understood to be the Holy Spirit. Our Celestial/Heavenly Mother is known as the Fiery Rose Heart. This painting reflects it all. Gold is the color of the Celestial Mother; silver is the color which represents the Holy Daughter.

The Shekinah and Holy Sophia are considered by some to be One and the same Divine Being/Person, while others recognize that these are two different Divine Feminine Persons. I like to think of them as each being Forms/Images of Dea (Our Divine Mother God).

In these latter times, the perception of the Shekinah appears to be evolving. Many are coming to understand the Shekinah as being a Divine Being/Person in Her Own right. This Shekina, though, is not merely just as aspect of God, She is a Divine Being of Her Own Right. (4) This is a great article.

I always have taught that Sophia is God in Her Own right. Her Godhood is not dependent upon the Father, nor is She God because She is the Spouse of the Father, rather, She is God because that is Her very Nature, Her Eternal Being; just as we have human nature, human being. She is a Person of the Godhood.

Nor did She need Her Male Consort to save- Her, as we shall see, rather, She is a Saviouress. Our Soteria who works hand in hand with the Christ-Logos.

It must be remembered that there are many aspects of Sophia. In addition to being the Wisdom Goddess, in the earliest Gnostic texts, Sophia is Creatrix and sometimes, She is listed as Supreme.

As the Barbelo, She is the Supreme Mystery, the Mother of the All. As Aletheia, She is Truth. As Pistis, She is Faith.  She is also known as the Holy Spirit.Through Zoe, She is Life. She is the Mother of All Life.

And so, though She may be the Wisdom Goddess, that is only one Aspect of Her.

I believe that She is the Christian Divine Mother God, Who is coming to be known as, Dea.

(As you read the following, please keep in mind that I have not studied the Kabbalah or the Zohar and so I only have a rudimentary knowledge of these things.)

I had a Jewish friend (mentioned in a previous post), Lieren Malka, who was a Reconstructionist Jew. She believed in the Shekina as Mother and Daughter just as many understand Sophia to be Mother and Daughter. Like the Sophia, this understanding of the Shekina as being Mother and Daughter is based upon the idea of Higher and Lower Shekinah, just as there is Higher and Lower Sophia.

In Gnostic circles, the Mother is considered to be the Barbelo (whom some Gnostic scholars consider to be Higher Sophia). while the Daughter is Lower Sophia.

In the Gnostic Text, On the Origin of the World, the Mother and Daughter are named: Pistis Sophia is the Mother of Zoe. In the Valentinian System, we have Sige (may be pronounced Sy-gee or Siege), which means Silence. The Mother is Aletheia, which means Truth and the Daughter is Zoe, which means Life. (1).

I have noticed how many similarities there are between the Mythos/ Story of the Shekinah and that of Holy Sophia.

Lower/Daughter) Sophia, is the World Soul. The Shekinah is also the World Soul.
 painting by Helena Nelson Reed:

From the Universal Kabbalah Network: … the Shekinah is the World Soul. So, the Shekina, in addition to being the Soul of God, is also the Soul of the World. (2). Can there be more than one World Soul?

In some forms of Deanic (Goddess) Christianity, Mother Sophia is known as Rosa Coeli, Rose of Heaven. The Holy Daughter Sophia, as the World Soul is known as Rosa Mundi, Rose of the World.

In my own spiritual Tradition, Our Heavenly Mother, as Rosa Coeli, is Transcendent, like Our True Father, while the Holy Daughter, as Rosa Mundi, is Immanent like the Divine Son.

As we will see in the excerpt below, the Shekinah is the World Soul voluntarily, while according to Gnostic Christian Mythos, Sophia is the World Soul because She is trapped here because She erred and is Fallen and is in need of Her Male Consort to save Her.

But as Rose Horman Arthur  showed in her scholarly work, The Wisdom Goddess, Feminine Motifs in Eight Nag Hammadi Documents, (I believe this is available through Stanford University Library), Gnostic Christian authors took pre-Christian texts and clearly demoted Sophia. Her ‘Fall and entrapment’ was not in the pre-Christian equivalent texts. From what I understand, they took certain texts, re-wrote them, demoted Sophia in many, many areas and gave them a new title. According to Dr. Arthur, the ‘Fallen Sophia” was unknown in the original texts.

Sophia and the Shekinah each suffer a Descent through darkness. We know, from Gnostic texts, that Sophia suffers a Descent down through ever-denser/darker realms, which causes Her Light to Scatter. The Shekinah also suffer a Descent through the realms which causes Her Soul to Shatter as we read in the following text:

Here again, the Shekinah plays a very special and multi-faceted role in the Kabbalistic teachings.  For, it is the Shekinah that is ascribed by Kabbalists to be the Middle Pillar of Balance that unites the opposites, just as the soul allows for the opposites of body and spirit to unite, so too does the Shekinah play this role for us.  Indeed, the Shekinah is the Soul of Man, what Kabbalists call the Neshamah, for She has given a portion of Herself in order for each human to come into being in this world. In giving of Herself to humans, in this state of physical density and isolation, the World Soul becomes shattered. This shattering can be metaphorically grasped in considering what might happen to a glass alembic or flask when too much pressure is put upon in the alchemical works.  Thus, the Shekinah represents the ultimate archetype of selfless sacrifice. All Her sacrifices have been for the benefit of creation so that humankind may experience this life in order to fulfill its destiny and purpose. Kabbalists, therefore, pay great respect and gratitude to the Shekinah for Her sacrifice and service by taking up the mantle or the quest to reunite the Shekinah with the Creator.

Through this, the Shekinah shares Her Soul with us while Sophia resides in us as the Divine Spark of Light.

Both Sophia and the Shekinah have often been referred to as the Holy Spirit. (3).

Both are said to be Higher/Mother and Lower/Daughter. The Mother is Her Transcendent Form, the Holy Daughter is the Immanent Form as the World Soul.

In Thunder, Perfect Mind,,

which some scholars believe was originally named in honor of the Barbelo, (High Sophia), depicts Her as the Immanent Saviouress who speaks, speaks back and forth about Her identity. (4)

For I am the first and the last.I am the honored one and the scorned one.I am the whore and the holy one.I am the wife and the virgin.I am <the mother> and the daughter.I am the members of my mother.I am the barren oneand many are her sons.I am she whose wedding is great, and I have not taken a husband.I am the midwife and she who does not bear.I am the solace of my labor pains.I am the bride and the bridegroom, etc.

On a personal level, I can understand Thunder on different levels. On one level, I see part of this poem as going back and forth between the Transcendent Mother (Barbelo-Sophia) and the Immanent Daughter (Eve-Sophia). The Immanent Daughter is within each of us. Whatever we go through, She goes through. There is nothing that we suffer which She does not suffer with us. There is no joy that we experience that She does not experience with us,

And so, as the Transcendent Mother, She is the honored one, but as the least of Her children, in whom dwells the Holy Daughter, She is the scorned one and so on.  Here is an article with similar views:

4) Wikipedia: “Thunder Perfect Mind (the title is, more accurately, The Thunder – Perfect Intellect) takes the form of an extended, riddling monologue, in which an immanent saviour speaks a series of paradoxical statements concerning the divine feminine nature. The original language of the poem was Greek, though only a Coptic version survives in the Nag Hammadi library; the manuscript resides in the Cairo Coptic museum.”
